Cody Volk did not grow up in a musical household. His parents were not musicians and he had no brothers or sisters to expose him to unknown artists. The same handful of CD's revolved in his parents 6 disc player, whose speakers were wired through to the backyard. Though his parents are not diehard music fans, they loved the sounds of Carlos Santana, Harry Connick Jr., Brian McKnight, Buffalo Springfield, The Beatles, and Garth Brooks to take them away to paradise as they relaxed on a Sunday afternoon, and these sounds soaked in Cody's DNA.
When he was 10 years old, his middle school best friends wanted to start a band and asked him if he could play guitar. Cody said yes - and that was a lie. He went home that very night and asked if he could have a guitar and maybe take lessons someday. Although this little fib was certainly not the dawn of lying for him, it was the dawn of a wonderful journey and love with the guitar.
After attending Berklee College of Music in 2011 for guitar and music business, he returned to LA and keeps busy as a freelance guitarist and teacher. Cody specializes in using a student's interests to guide his technique, theory and practice that are necessary to learning an instrument. His motto is, "Learning music must be a labor of love. When the love comes first, the labor is also a joy."
