Simon Blondell is a Los Angeles–based saxophonist and composer who has been playing music since the age of eight. He began with piano lessons before picking up the saxophone in fifth grade. Throughout junior high and high school, Simon played in jazz band, marching band, and concert band, earning the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award in 2020. After graduating, he attended Santa Barbara City College, where he studied with Jim Mooy and Andrew Martinez. During his time there, he was one of only two students selected to perform with the All-Pro Monday Madness Big Band. He also co-founded a jazz combo that performed regularly throughout Santa Barbara and appeared in an award-winning production of Romeo and Juliet.
In 2024, Simon transferred to CalArts, where he earned his BFA while studying saxophone performance and composition with Steve Lehman, Darek Oles, Vinny Golia, and David Roitstein. As a performer, Simon has shared the stage with artists including Dave Piltch, Vardan Ovsepian, Antonio Artese, and Brad Dutz. He also leads his own quartet, performing original compositions at venues throughout the Los Angeles area.
