Violinist Leslie Gonzalez is a 20-year-old Chicana residing in Los Angeles, CA. For 13 years, she studied violin in her El Sistema program, The Harmony Project. She is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance at the University of Redlands under Samuel Fischer. Prior to coming to Redlands, she studied under teachers Adrianne Pope, Audrey Salmon, and Marta Homer.
Leslie has had the opportunity to work with amazing musicians ranging from the United States all the way to the United Kingdom. Some notable awards that she has received are honorable mentions at the Harmony Project Concerto Competition and the Glendale Community College Competition. At the age of 18, she had the opportunity to work with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, New World Symphony, Sistema Scotland, and the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. Leslie has had the privilege of participating in summer programs like Interlochen Arts Camp and YOLA National Festival. Leslie was part of the first cohort of 22 students of the YOLA National Institute, where she learned about how to bring change into the world of music. Going forward, Leslie hopes to grow into a musician that brings change and inspires others to do the same.
One of Leslie’s passions besides playing, is teaching. For 7 years, Leslie has taught many wonderful students ranging from young ages to adults. In her lessons, she incorporates her Suzuki training, classical music and popular music, that helps her students be versatile. As a teacher, it is rewarding for her to see her students grow, and to continue to be inspired by music and to express themselves with music.
