Torrance Klein began piano lessons at age 5, added guitar lessons at age 10, and in high school branched out instrumentally, playing upright bass in the wind ensemble, electric bass in the premier jazz band, snare drum in the marching band/drumline, and either bass or drum set in each of the school musicals. As a bassist, he was decorated with a soloist award in the 2012 Reno Jazz festival.
For his college education, Torrance pursued a music production scholarship at California Lutheran University where he had the honor of studying under 17-time Grammy award winner Benny Faccone. Torrance graduated in 2016, returning the following year as a paid musician to assist the school jazz ensemble and perform as a bassist in the improv comedy band. He can be heard performing regularly as a member of the Dogfish Jazz Collective and the alternative rock band Lancer Roscoe.
As an experienced student and teacher, Torrance knows that each pupil requires a specialized facet of instruction, and everyone finds inspiration in unique forms. He is offering lessons in electric bass, both the traditional fretted and contemporary fretless styles. He is also qualified to teach guitar and piano lessons, as well as rudimentary percussion. From the basics of technique to the more complex aspects of jazz theory, Torrance is happy to share his love of music.
